Punch Director, Lekan Are Dies At 86

Foremost Nigerian agronomist and Punch Newspaper director, Dr Lekan Are is dead.

Are was confirmed dead by the Public Relations Officer of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Toye Akinrinola on Saturday.

According to him, Are gave up the ghost after a brief illness at the High Dependency Unit of UCH at about 12.30 am on Saturday.

Born in Ibadan on Dec. 2, 1933, Dr Are attended Government College, Ibadan (he was president of GCI alumni association) and also studied agriculture at the University of Ibadan.

The deceased was the Chairman of Kakanfo Inn and Conference Centre, Ibadan; a former Chairman of University Press Plc; director, WEMA Bank; a pioneer General Manager of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority; and a proud son of Ibadan, Oyo State.
