Ex-NNPC GMD, Joseph Dawha, Is Dead

Former Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Joseph Thalama Dawha, is dead.

NNPC GMD, Mele Kyari, disclosed Dawha’s death in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle Monday evening.

The deceased, who headed the state-run oil company between 2014 and 2015, died after a brief illness.

Kyari described Dawha’s death as a great loss to the nation.

“The NNPC family regrets to announce the passing away of Dr Joseph Thlama Dawha, GMD NNPC 2014- 2015 after a brief illness,” he tweeted.

“We remember his astute leadership and immense contributions to the progress of the Corporation. It’s a great loss to us, the nation and the family.”

In 2014, former President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Dawha to replace Andrew Yakubu.

Before he was appointed GMD, Dawha served as the group executive director, exploration and production of the corporation.

The former GMD who hailed from Borno joined the corporation in 1988.

Dawha’s death comes about two months after the immediate past NNPC GMD, Maikanti Baru, died.
