An Abuja Mobile Court has fined popular artiste, Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, N200,000 for violating COVID-19 protocols.
Recall that Naira Marley led his team to perform at Jabi Lake Mall, on June 13, 2020, in stark violation of the COVID-19 lockdown. The Federal Capital Territory Administration thereafter shut down the mall. Execujet, the company that flew Naira Marley, was also fined and suspended by the Federal Government until recently.
On Friday, the Lagos-based artiste pleaded guilty to a four-count charge filed against him by the FCT Administration.
He was accused of defying the interstate restriction on movement by flying into Abuja, being seen during the day in Abuja without wearing a face mask, being found outside his residence in the evening at Jabi Lake Mall and being found during the night at a social gathering at Jabi Lake Mall despite the dusk to dawn curfew.
Magistrate Idayat Akanni handed down the fine.
Mr. Fashola is also expected to publish a public apology in any national newspaper.
