Lionel Messi is in the news and Barcelona faithful dread the reports making the rounds at the moment.
Messi, Barcelona’s greatest player of all time, highest goal scorer of all time, highest creator of all time and 6-time World Player of the Year winner may be set to exit the Blaugrana after getting displeased by the new scheme of things in the team.
The Argentine maestro has expressed his desire to leave Barcelona and according to various reports, he has indicated his readiness to leave the Catalan giants if his transfer clause is met. The enormity of his buy-out clause however remains an issue as any club willing to buy Messi must be ready to fork out €700m.
The 33-year-old superstar’s future at the Camp Nou started to show a less glowing appearance after his public spat with Sporting Director and former teammate, Eric Abidal.
Messi’s frustrations however got to the head when they were humiliated 8-2 by Bayern Munich in the quarter final of the Champions League.
Argentine TV channel TyC Sports reports that the six-time Ballon d’Or winner has ‘informed’ the Spanish club that he wants to leave.
Journalist Alfredo Martinez claims that Messi will not attend PCR testing and won’t link up with his teammates for pre-season training.
Barcelona have confirmed Messi’s statement and say his contract clause expired on 10th June, according to reports.
Barcelona legend Carles Puyol has since reacted to the news by taking to Twitter and posting:
“Respect and admiration, Leo. All my support, friend.”
Luis Suarez also commented under Puyol’s post with Arturo Vidal also dropping a cryptic comment to further fuel rumours of an imminent exit.
Messi has spent his entire senior playing career at Barcelona after breaking into the first team under Frank Rijkaard.
He has won an astonishing 10 La Liga titles, six Copa del Reys, seven Spanish Super Cups and four Champions League in his illustrious playing career at the Camp Nou.
