Another Special Assistant Resigns From Obaseki’s Government

Another Special Assistant to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Newton Osifo, has resigned from his administration ahead of the September 19 governorship election.

Osifo, who was appointed on June 1, 2020, said he resigned due to personal reasons and commitment.

In a letter addressed to the governor through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Osarodion Ogie, he thanked the SSG for the opportunity to serve in that capacity.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation as the special assistant to the governor,” the letter read.

“And I also want to thank my leader, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, for giving me the opportunity to serve as the special assistant to the governor.

“I am constrained to take this decision due to personal reasons and commitment.”

Osifo’s move followed a string of resignations from the administration in recent months.

Last week, the Commissioner for Minerals, Oil and Gas in Edo State, Joseph Ikpea, and Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender Issues in Owan West LGA, Oarhe Glory, resigned their appointments.

In June, another commissioner, Paul Ohonbamu, had also resigned.

His resignation came a little over a month after Taiwo Akerele resigned as Obaseki’s Chief of Staff on April 25, 2020.

Senior Special Assistant on Anti-Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration, Solomon Okoduwa and Senior Special Assistant on Donor Agencies, Emmanuel Sule, had earlier resigned from the administration in April 2020.
