The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has activated two new testing laboratories for the novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19.

The centre made the disclosure in a tweet on Saturday.

It named the laboratories as Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, GeneXpert lab, Nasarawa State, and Total Biomolecular lab, Rivers State.

The NCDC emphasised that testing at any lab in its Molecular Laboratory Network is free of charge.

“We are pleased to announce the inclusion of 2 new labs to the NCDC Molecular Laboratory Network:

FMC Keffi GeneXpert lab, Nasarawa State

Total Biomolecular lab, Rivers State,” the centre tweeted.

“Testing at any lab in the NCDC network is free of charge.”

The new additions bring the total number of COVID-19 testing laboratories in Nigeria to 69 spread across 34 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Kebbi and Niger States are the only states in Nigeria without COVID-19 testing laboratories.

As of Friday night, the NCDC had collected a total of 420,543 samples for testing out of which 54,743 had returned positive for COVID-19.
