FG Lifts Ban On Emirates Airlines As UAE Reverses Visa Restriction On Nigerians

The Federal Government says it has reached a decision to lift the ban preventing Emirates Airlines from flying into Nigeria.

The minister had on September 18 announced the ban on Emirates flights over alleged refusal to grant fresh visa applications submitted by Nigerians.

The move followed the government’s statement that it would enforce the principle of reciprocity in granting permission to airlines to resume operations.

But in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Wednesday, Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, announced that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had agreed to resume visa issuance to Nigerians.

According to him, lifting of the visa restriction was a condition for Nigeria to allow Emirates Airlines operations in Nigeria.

“UAE has written to state that they agree to issue visas to Nigerians, consequently decision has been reached to allow Emirates to fly into Nigeria,” he tweeted.

“Commencement of the Visa issuance is condition precedent. Please bear with this unusual situation. Many thanks.”
