After 10 weeks of intense drama and competition, the Big Brother Naija season 5 which started on 19 July, 2020 will come to an end today, 27th of September 2020 with just one housemate being crowned the winner.
It has been an intriguing and eventful 71 days, starting with 20 housemates (10 males and 10 females), each serving the audience with so much to talk about.
Last week Sunday, five finalists emerged (Laycon, Dorathy, Vee, Neo and Nengi) after surviving evictions and disqualification.
The ‘Lockdown’ edition recorded just one disqualification like the ‘Pepper Dem’ season, the highlight of the reality show.
Ngozi “Erica” Nlewedim’s exit was the shocker to all especially the viewers because she has a large fan base who call themselves Elites.
Recall that Erica was disqualified on 6th of September, 2020 over the altercation she had with a fellow housemate. She was found guilty of bullying, defacing of Biggie’s property, among other offences.
There is no gainsaying the fact that had Erica not been disqualified from the show, she would have been among the finalists.
Although, there is no guarantee of her being crowned the winner if she was in the show because another housemate, Laycon also has a large fan base. The ICONS as Laycon’s fans call themselves would also pump in their votes to ensure that their favourite wins the grand prize.
However, Erica’s disqualification seems to be working in her favour after her fans opened a GoFundMe account to support her with the aim of raking in $100,000.
In just about three weeks, her fans have been able to raise $66,080 (N30 million), making her richer than other housemates, except the person that will be pronounced as the winner.
Erica’s case seems to be like Tacha, the disqualified and one of the most successful housemate of last season.
Winning the show may not guarantee success as some winners in the past are nowhere to be found in the ladder of success while someone like Tacha who did not win, is still doing well today, this may be Erica’s trend.
