At least one person has been shot dead by police officers in the ongoing protest against police brutality and extra-judicial killings in the Surulere area of Lagos State.
The victim was hit by a stray bullet after the police officers on ground allegedly shot indiscriminately to disperse the protesters.
Several videos have emerged on social media, showing sporadic shootings by police operatives, with the protesters scampering to safety.
The protesters had earlier blocked the entrances of the Murtala Muhammed Airport and National Stadium Surulere in a bid to express their grievances against brutality and harassment by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The #EndSARS protest was triggered by incessant cases of brutality by police.
In response to Nigerians’ outcry, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday, disbanded the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
But the move did little to pacify protesters, who are demanding total reformation of the force.
