Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have commenced accreditation and issuance of ballot papers to voters across polling units and local government areas (LGAs) in the 2020 governorship election in Ondo State.
Aledeh News observed that the elderly and physically challenged are being given a priority to cast their vote early.
While the physical distancing guideline was not adhered to in many polling units, use of face masks was enforced.
This medium observed that voting has commenced at Ijebu-Owo, PU 006, Ikebu II ward 5 in Owo LGA, where Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is expected to cast his vote.
The process has kicked off in Ward 02, PU 04 where, the state’s Deputy Governor and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, is expected to vote.
Polling centres where the process has also commenced are PU 006, ward 08, Odigbo LGA, Agba PU 08, ward 4, Akoko south-west LGA, Apoi Ward 01, PU 01, Igbekebo, Ese-Odo LGA, PU 006, ward 08, Odigbo LGA, Ward 9, PU 33 in Akoko South East LGA, PU 14, ward 3 Irele LG, where a large number of voters disregard social distancing while waiting to cast their vote.
Others are Ajiferere PU O1, ward 01 in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo LGA, PU 011, Ward 08, Odigbo LGA, PU 006, Ijebu II ward 05, Ijebu-Owo LGA, PU 1 Ward 10, Ikare, Akoko North East LGA, PU 001, Ward 6 Ifon II. Ose LGA. Ward 7, PU 6, Idanre LGA, PU 2, Igbaraoke ward 2 in Ifedore LGA, PU 01, Ward 5 in Akoko South West LGA.
TheCable observed that electoral officials have resorted to manual accreditation after card reader failed in ward 2, PU 2, Ifedore LGA.
This is against the directive of INEC which had insisted on compulsory use of card readers.
