COVID-19: WHO DG, Ghebreyesus, Self-Isolates After Contact With Infected Person

The Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, says he’s in self-isolation after being in close contact with someone who’s infected with the novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19.

He made the disclosure in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle Sunday night.

Ghebreyesus, who noted that he’s without symptoms, said he’ll be working from home until he gets an all-clear.

He emphasised the importance of complying with safety guidelines to help curtail transmission and protect health systems.

“I have been identified as a contact of someone who has tested positive for #COVID19,” the WHO boss tweeted.

“I am well and without symptoms but will self-quarantine over the coming days, in line with @WHO protocols, and work from home

“It is critically important that we all comply with health guidance. This is how we will break chains of #COVID19 transmission, suppress the virus, and protect health systems.

“My @WHO colleagues and I will continue to engage with partners in solidarity to save lives and protect the vulnerable. Together!”
