Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped Prof. Waziri Edokpa, the Chairman of Esan Central Local Government Council of Edo State, in Edo Central Senatorial District, along the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi Road in the state.
Aledeh News gathered that gunmen also on Friday shot dead the driver of a bus in the fleet of a popular transport company and seized 14 Abuja-bound passengers on Benin-Auchi Road in Edo.
The driver was reportedly killed during the attack.
As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the kidnapped council chairman, and the 14 passengers could not be ascertained.
The gunmen are yet to make any contact for ransom.
Earlier in November, Aledeh News reported that police officers had deserted the Benin-Auchi road in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest, making it a tough route as armed robbers constantly blocked the road taking possession of passengers and drivers’ belongings.
The State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have at different times urged the policemen to return to their duty posts, assuring cooperation from residents.
