The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan (UI) has approved the appointment of Professor Adebola Ekanola as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
ALEDEH News had earlier on Monday reported that Ekanola was elected by the the university’s Senate. He beat four other professors to emerge the acting VC.
In a statement later on Monday, UI’s Director of Public Communication, Olatunji Oladejo, said the governing council had approved Ekanola’s appointment.
The approval was given at a council meeting on the recommendation of the Senate.
The meeting was presided over by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Nde Joshua Waklek Mutka.
Before his appointment, Prof. Ekanola served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Director of Office of International Programmes (OIP) and the Dean, Faculty of Arts, among other appointments.
The tenure of the outgoing vice-chancellor, Idowu Olayinka, lasped on Monday.
