A former Military Administrator of Lagos and Imo States, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd), is dead.
He reportedly died from COVID-19 complications on Wednesday.
The former governor was aged 77.
Late Kanu was appointed military governor of Imo State in March 1976 during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was the first governor after the decree that established the state from part of the old East Central State.
Kanu was transferred to become governor of Lagos State in 1977, leaving office in July 1978.
After retirement, he became part of the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), an advocacy group calling for the return of democracy to Nigeria.
Kanu became a chieftain of the group and was a prominent voice in the agitation for the actualisation of the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election MKO Abiola was presumed to have won.
