In a tweet via his official Twitter handle, Buhari confirmed the appointment of new service chiefs.
He disclosed that the new appointments were made after he accepted the resignation of the erstwhile service chiefs.
I have accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs, and their retirement from service. I thank them all for their overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to Nigeria, and wish them well in their future endeavours.

The outgoing service chiefs are Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar. They are also retiring from service according to the president.
There had been several calls to replace the military chiefs, who were appointed by the president in July 2015, due to the lapses in the war against insurgency, as well as the worsening insecurity across the country, particularly in northern Nigeria.
The National Assembly had also joined the calls for the replacement/resignation of the service chiefs.
But Buhari refused the calls until Tuesday when he accepted the security chiefs’ resignation.
