Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has handed over to Major General Ibrahim Attahiru who assumes office as the new Chief of Army Staff.
The handing over was done during a ceremony at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday.
The erstwhile army chief, who spent over five years in office, urged military officers to cooperate with Attahiru.
Buhari had on Tuesday replaced the service chiefs, including Buratai.
Those newly appointed are Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff, Major-General I. Attahiru; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air-Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao.
