Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo was involved in a heated exchange with the joint committee of the National Assembly over the 774,000 job creations by the federal government.
The jobs selection and screening is being handled by the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
In a video that has gone viral, Keyamo was heard arguing with members of the committee over the makeup of the selection committee.
The committee called for a close session afterwards but the Minister refused and said, “how can corruption be stopped without the cameras?”, reacting to a statement by a lawmaker that they are also responsible for checking corruption.
Keyamo was accused of grandstanding by the members of the committee and was asked to leave the floor. Some of the lawmakers accused him of playing to the gallery.
The 774,000 jobs is to be spread round the 774 local governments across Nigeria and the Minister has previously reassured Nigerians of the non-politicization of the process of selection.
Members of the selection committees are said to come from Civil, and religious societies and unions representing Nigerian workers.
