A lecturer with the Ondo State University of Science of Technology (OSUSTECH), Okitipupa, Prof. Gideon Okedayo, who was recently kidnapped by unknown gunmen has been found dead.
The decomposing body of the deceased was reportedly discovered on Monday in a bush where his abductors left him.
The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), OSUSTECH Chapter, Dr. Dipo Akomolafe, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Okitipupa.
Akomolafe said ASUU and the university are sad and in disarray over the development.
“His decomposing body was found in the bush. This is so sad to ASUU and his family members because the abductors never called anybody, neither ASUU nor his family for ransom,’’ the ASUU chairman stated.
Okedayo was kidnapped on the eve of September 5 at Akoko junction on Igara-Auchi road alongside his driver on his way to his hometown in Igara, Edo.
The Edo State Police Command had earlier announced that it had recovered the professor’s official vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, a few hours after the abduction.
The command is yet to react to the development as CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, its Public Relations Officer, did not return several calls put to him.
Until his death, Okedayo was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and Acting Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies at OSUSTECH.
