Chelsea striker, Alvaro Morata missed a hattrick of chances on Wednesday night, December 3 as Hector Bellerin’s stoppage-time goal rescued a 2-2 draw for Arsenal in the matchday 22 of the English Premier League.
Morata missed a glorious chance to give Antonio Conte’s men a 14th-minute lead, firing hopelessly wide in a duel with Arsenal goalkeeper, Petr Cech after which the visitors were then indebted to a Thibaut Courtois save which pushed Alexis Sanchez’s shot on to both posts.
Arsenal midfielder, Jack Wilshere opened the scoring for the Gunners on the 63rd minutes in what was his first league goal since May 2015 before Eden Hazard equalised for “The Blues” four (4) minutes later with a penalty.
Marcos Alonso looked to have won it for Chelsea in the 84th minute, but Bellerin’s 90th minute’s strike earned the Gunners a draw.
Chelsea came into the game hoping to leapfrog Manchester United into the second position on the log but could only manage a draw due to the wastefulness of its players especially Bakayoko and Morata who had more than two one-on-ones with the Arsenal goalkeeper.
Morata missed three one-on-ones in Saturday’s demolition of Stoke and followed those up with further wasteful finishing at the Emirates on Wednesday night.
Speaking after the match, Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte said it was not a lucky night for his striker.
“This is not a lucky period for Morata. In the last game against Stoke, I said it’s important for the striker to have chances. Today he had chances to score, but this is football. I am very happy for his commitment.
“For Alvaro, this is the first season he is playing with regularity. I am very happy with his commitment and the way he is playing. He has to stay calm and continue to play this way”, he opined.
