There was confusion in Bayelsa State House of Assembly as the Speaker, Tonye Isenah got impeached in a plot by a faction of the House.
The Speaker was replaced immediately by Monday Obolo, a lawmaker representing Southern Ijaw Constituency.
Some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders had mounted pressure on him to resign his position ahead of the November 16th governorship election.
Meanwhile, the House Mace has been taken away by hoodlums.
Isenah’s Media Aide, Ranami Afagha said his boss impeachment would not stand since the symbol of authority (Mace) was not in the House.
He noted that the activities of Isenah were considered illegal and unconstitutional.
“Those who don’t want peace said they removed the speaker without the presence of the mace.
“The mace was taken away so any activity done without the mace is illegal. So, my boss still remains the Speaker,” he said.
Iseanah had reportedly adjourned the plenary indefinitely in a move to halt his removal.
But thugs immediately stormed the House, shooting sporadically and made away with the mace, according to reports.
