While many see him as an accomplished preacher, to some he is a young man who gave obstacles a bloodied nose twenty-six (26) years ago to see his vision come through.
ALEDEH team celebrates this icon of history, Bishop Isaac Idahosa, one of Nigeria’s finest preachers.
Born February 8, 1965 into the family of six (6) children in Minna, Niger State, West-Central Nigeria, Isaac Idahosa rose from a relatively unknown preacher in a room in Niger State to a Bishop of one of the single largest Pentecostal churches in Africa, God First Ministry, popularly known as Illumination Assembly.
A peep into Bishop Idahosa’s life at 53 shows he remains a “record breaker in the face of many obstacles”.

In 1985, Bishop Idahosa went to the Bible College called Soul Clear Bible College to acquire knowledge. He enjoyed scholarship up to the university level in Niger State.
Bishop Isaac Idahosa’s Early Life:
Bishop Idahosa parents settled in the north, precisely in Minna, Niger State capital before the civil war broke out in 1967. He is from Edo State, Southern Nigeria.
Bishop Isaac Idahosa’s Challenge In Ministry And The Big Picture:
Bishop Idahosa lived in a house that had no louvres, no doors, and no toilets. He had to go to people’s farmland if he needed to ease himself, a life he lived for almost one year. The first international invitation the clergyman had was to travel to the Republic of Benin, a trip he applied by road.
Bishop Idahosa started his Ministry, Illumination Assembly 26 years ago in Niger State when he had just 50 kobo.
Bishop Idahosa approached one of his family friends, Idowu Maya who offered him his boy’s quarters to begin his ministry. In that apartment, Bishop Idahosa played his guitar every day until he started attracting neighbours and students in that area. After a while, the boy’s quarters could no longer accommodate members. At that point, Bishop Idahosa told Maya that he was going to rent a two-bedroom apartment.
Maya thought Bishop Idahosa had enough money to pay for the accommodation, not knowing that he had nothing on him. Eventually, the clergyman found one and was to pay N6,000 but had only 50 kobo on him. On his way, he saw an abandoned building with an inscription on the wall, “God’s Own House”.
While trying to contact the owner of the property, he discovered it was owned by one Barrister Shadare, who died mysteriously in connection with a case he handled in court and the person that occupied the house also died in the same manner but despite this, Bishop Idahosa indicated interest in moving into the apartment. He met the then former Chief Justice of Niger state who was in charge of the property and he obliged him to move into the building free of charge which he did in 1989.
Bishop Idahosa later moved to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city in the early 90’s but that was after he had built branches in the north. The clergyman continued his ministry in Surulere before moving to Ajao estate.
Today, the ministry has blossomed into a megachurch. In September 2012, international gospel star, Ron Kennelly was among the special guests invited for the 23rd anniversary of Bishop Idahosa’s Illumination Assembly Church in Minna, Niger State.
