Borno Visit: Garba Shehu Accuses Opposition Of Paying Miscreants To Boo Buhari

The Presidency has reacted to the boos received by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday when he visited Borno State on a sympathy visit.

The President had headed straight to Borno State to commiserate with the people on the attack on travelers in Auno town.

Buhari went to the Palace of the Shehu of Borno and government house, with the people reportedly unhappy with his decision not to visit the town that was hit.

Speaking on the Hausa Service of the BBC on Thursday, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said the boos were masterminded by the opposition.

“I was part of the delegation that entered Maiduguri right from the airport to the palace of the Shehu of Borno. The people came out to say thank you and welcome us,” Shehu said.

“But there was a group which came out shouting ‘we don’t want’.

“Some politicians gathered some miscreants and paid them money to boo Buhari.”

Vehicles and humans were burnt in the town after Boko Haram shelled them in an attack that saw the state governor advising the military and the federal government to change its approach to battling insurgency.
