While I am happy as a Nigerian that Mr. President is back, not necessarily because I hope to see a departure in terms of the quality of governance so far, but more because I celebrate the health of my fellow man.
However, while the President was away, a lot of negative issues bedeviled the nation, coupled with the discordant tunes coming from within the Presidency, the fight against corruption, the renewed strength of Boko Haram especially the recurrent bombings in University of Maiduguri and some parts of the north east, insecurity, kidnappings, and the near collapse of our education and health sector.
While I will be demanding too much from Mr President who is just coming from a medical vacation abroad and probably not too abreast with all the issues. Mr. President said he was following events while away and it is on that note that I expected more from Mr. President’s speech.
For instance, you cannot force UNITY without addressing the national question of INJUSTICE that has enveloped the nation.
All the questions of loss of jobs, the issues of his health, the new national agitation of restructuring that is leading to these quit notices all over are left hanging in the speech.
Finally, no mention is made of the economy in the entire speech.
