Dembele Wins Spanish Super Cup For Barcelona With Stunning Strike (Video)

Reigning La Liga champions, Barcelona have won the Spanish Super Cup, thanks to a 2-1 victory over Sevilla.

Sevilla opened the score on the 9th minute after striker Pablo Sarabia finished from a tight angle to give them an early lead.

The Sevilla striker was made to wait for a few anxious minutes with the referee, Carlos del Cerro checking video assistant referee (VAR), but after referring the technology he stuck with his original decision and Sevilla were a goal to the good.

However, Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique drew the sides level by scoring from close on the 42nd minute.

Surprisingly, Ousmane Dembele, who had been linked with a move away in the summer, proved to Barcelona manager, Ernesto Valverde that he can be a vital player this season by scoring a stunning strike from outside the box on the 78th minute to make the game 2-1 for the Lionel Messi’s captained side.

Fortunately, Sevilla were handed a gift to take the game into extra-time when Ter Stegen conceded a penalty in the dying moments but the Barcelona stopper atoned for his error by denying Wissam Ben Yedder to seal the victory for Barcelona.

The victory means Barcelona captain; Lionel Messi has now won thirty-three (33) trophies for FC Barcelona to become the most successful footballer in Barcelona history.
