Following the arrest of the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye at Zankli Medical Center in Abuja, the Senate has summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to appear before the plenary on Thursday, 26th April, 2018.
The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) were moving Senator Dino Melaye to Lokoja to be paraded on Tuesday evening among other hardened criminals who implicated him in the crime that necessitated his arrest before he jumped out of the vehicle. He was said to have sustained injuries in the bothed escape attempt.
The Senate president, Bukola Saraki lamented that he had not been able to reach the IG for 48 hours, describing it as “an insult to the legislature.”
According to him, the IGP will be grilled on the arrest of Melaye and recent insecurity challenges in the country. The Senate thereafter adjourned plenary to enable all the lawmakers to visit Mr Melaye.
Meanwhile, the delegation from the Senate, led by the Deputy Senate Leader, Bala Na’Allah were denied access to see the Senator by Policemen at the National Hospital ward where he is currently receiving treatments.
