No fewer than 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State have announced their decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP defectors cut across the six clans of Etsako West LGA comprising Auchi, Uzairue, Aviele, South Ibie, Anwain and Jagbe.
Speaking through their spokesman, Prince Yakubu Isah, in Benin City, the state capital, they noted that, with the focused governorship candidate of APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his running mate, Mallam Gani Audu, a native of Etsako West LGA, Edo State would be in safe hands from November 12, 2020.
Isah told reporters that the defecting members were tired of the propaganda of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
According to him, the leaders of the PDP compromised by letting Obaseki join the party, leaving them with no choice but to align with the candidacy of Audu and Ize-Iyamu.
“We have studied the administration of Obaseki in almost four years and come to the conclusion that it is a colossal failure,” he said.
“At a time, we were hopeful that our party, the PDP, would salvage what was left of the state, by producing the next governor to turn things around, but we were dumbfounded that the PDP leaders compromised and accommodated Obaseki.
“So, we are left with no choice but to align with our son, Hon. Gani Audu, the running mate to Pastor Ize-Iyamu.”
Obaseki joined the PDP recently after his disqualification from the APC primaries. He thereafter clinched the governorship ticket of the party. The governor and Ize-Iyamu will slug it out in the September 19, 2019, governorship election.
