The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (MYSD) says the 20th National Sports Festival, Edo 2020 will continue as planned.
The Assistant Director Press, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ramon Balogun who clarified this in a statement said the competitions are ongoing as scheduled.
The Ministry and the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) for the festival have claimed not to be aware of any plans or threat by the Edo State Government (EDSG) to shut down the sports festival, adding that there has been no official meeting or communication in respect to that.
The statement disclosed that the host state was expected to formally communicate with the Minister, Permanent Secretary and Directors who are presently at Benin City where the Festival is holding or officially meet the MOC should any urgent exist around the National Sports Festival arise.
The Ministry stated that the government of the host state due to the cost implications of postponements occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic requested financial assistance from the Federal government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
However, the Ministry has since been at work to secure the financial assistance which it believes is being processed, adding that MYSD and EDSG are determined to deliver a successful National Sports Festival.
