Some members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the September 19 governorship election.
In the same vein, some councillors in the state have vowed to support candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
According to Niger Delta Today, at least 50 members of the PDP defected to APC in ward 06 Umagbae South, Uhunmwode local government area of Edo State.
In addition, seven of the 10 Councilors in Uhunmwode Local Government Council have declared their support to APC after refusing to defect with Governor Obaseki to PDP.
Augustine Omoroghomwan, Councilor representing Umagbae South Ward 06 said at a meeting of the ward leaders and executives said during his defection “I am here to tell you that I remain in APC. Seven of us refused to dance to the Governor’s music, while three others cave in, after all pressure.
The defectors were led by the former ward Secretary, Mr. Godwin Imagbe. They were received by the Former Minority Whip, Samson Osagie, APC Uhunmwode Local government Chairman, Lawson Osarenren and the party ward Chairman, Mr. Godwin Obamwonyi at a political gathering in Eyaen, near Benin.
A former PDP Chieftain, Mr. Godwin Imagbe who spoke for others said they are in the APC to help defeat Obaseki.
“We are here to join forces with you all for Obaseki’s downfall. We will work for APC. PDP is not coordinated, the party leadership is selfish and doesn’t recognize hard work”, said Mr Imagbe who was immediately issued an APC membership card by the ward Chairman, Mr. Godwin Obamwonyi.
