A group under the auspice of Afenmai World Congress (AWC) has mourned the death of the Oba of Agbede and Clan Head of Aviele Land in Edo State. The monarch who ascended the throne in 1959 passed away on 25th March 2018.
In a press statement jointly signed by the Assistant Secretary-General and Publicity Secretary of the AWC, Stephen Igabor and Ted Osigwe respectively, the group rued the death of the royal father, saying his death marked the end of an era in the annals of Agbede kingdom.
They said: “With mixed feelings and great grief, we of Afenmai World Congress (AWC), USA received the news of the death of our notable royal father, His Royal Highness, Oba Sani Momodu II, the indefatigable Oba of Agbede and Clan Head of Aviele Land in Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State, Nigeria who reigned between 1959 and 25th March 2018.
“While the uncommon peace, progress, and tranquility experienced by the good people of Agbede throughout the reign of the great monarch remain undoubtful, it is worth-stating that his demise marked the end of an era in the annals of Agbede Kingdom in particular and Afenmailand generally.
“No doubt, his passage at such a time as this when his most valuable fatherly service is most needed for the overall development of his community as well as Afenmailand and the entire Edo State is not only regretted but very painful.
The Afenmai World Congress condoled the chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council, Alhaji Yakson Musa, and the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki over the demise of the monarch, praying God grant the Oba’s family and the people of Agbede the fortitude to bear the loss.
“We, therefore, join Alhaji Yakson Musa, the Executive Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council and the entire good people of Agbede Kingdom and Afenmailand to mourn the demise of our great royal father. We wish to especially extend our condolence to His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and the entire good people of Edo State.
“May Allah grant him Jannah Fidous and grant his family and the entire good people of Agbede Kingdom/Aviele Clan, Afenmailand and Edo State the fortitude to bear this great loss.”
