Ethiopian Airlines Crash: Secretary General Honours Dead UN Staff

The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Gutierres is inviting staff of the United Nations and others to a wreath-laying ceremony in honour of the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash.

In a message sent from the office of the U.N Secretary General, it said; ”In the aftermath of the tragic plane crash this past Sunday in Ethiopia, the Secretary-General invites staff and others to join him for a wreath-laying ceremony in honour of the UN personnel and others who perished.

This solemn gathering will take place on Friday, 15 March, at 11 a.m., in the General Assembly Visitors’ Lobby, in the area near the Chagall Windows just outside the Meditation Room.  UN delegates and staff may also offer flowers for our fallen colleagues at the Memorial Wall located outside the Mediation Room or at the South Wall facing the Secretariat Lobby.

The Secretary-General also wishes to inform the UN family that he will convene the Annual Memorial Ceremony to honour UN personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty on Monday, 6 May 2019, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the Economic and Social Council Chamber. This year’s Memorial will cover the period from 1 January 2018 through 15 March of this year.
