Ex Golden Eaglet, Phillip Osondu Dies Aged 48

Former Golden Eaglet, Phillip Osondu has died at the age of 48.

Osondu’s death was confirmed on Friday at the hospital, after a brief illness.

He played for the Golden Eaglets side of 1987 that were runners up at the Cadet World Cup, where they were defeated by the Soviet Union in the final.

Osondu, who was voted the Most Valuable Player at the tournament never played for the Green Eagles/Super Eagles.

He represented the Flying Eagles and was part of the team that came 2nd behind Portugal at the Saudi 89 World Youth Championship.

Osondu played for Anderlecht and La Louviere, both in the Belgian league at the peak of his career, spending seven years in the former.

He retired from football in 2004.
