Ex UEFA President, Platini Arrested In France

Former Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)’s President, Michel Platini has been arrested on Tuesday morning, in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris.

He was reportedly arrested in relation to the award of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar and taken to the premises of the Anti-Corruption Office of the Judicial Police (OCLCIFF).

Platini served as president for eight years before being banned from all football activity by the FIFA Ethics Committee in 2015.

Claude Gueant, the former secretary general of the Elysee under former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, was also questioned by investigators as part of the probe but was not detained.
