There is an ongoing commotion in the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria’s burgeoning online integrated media platform, ALEDEH can report.
The commotion ALEDEH gathered came after the Force slashed the salaries of Many of its officers.
ALEDEH recalls that the development is coming barely two (2) months after the Police Service Commission, PSC, released a controversial list of promoted officers of the Force.
The PSC promoted four hundred and fourteen (414), senior police officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
The controversial list of promoted officers was greeted by a storm of criticism not only by Nigerians but also some officers of the Force.
Out of the four hundred and fourteen (414), senior police officers promoted by the PSC, 3 commissioners of police were promoted to the next rank of assistant inspector-general of police, four deputy commissioners of police to commissioners of police and 12 assistant commissioners of police were promoted to deputy commissioners of police.
Similarly, 61 chief superintendents of Police (CSP) were promoted to the rank of the Assistant commissioners of police (ACP); 30 superintendents of Police (SP) to chief superintendents of police (CSP); 48 deputy superintendents of police (DSP) to superintendents of police (SP) and 65 assistant superintendents of police (ASP) to deputy superintendents of police (DSP) and 191 inspectors were promoted to the rank of assistant superintendents of police (ASP).
A fact check by ALEDEH had revealed how the Police Service Commission, PSC, backdated the controversial list of the promoted officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Investigations by ALEDEH also revealed that out of the 414 promoted, over 250 are “special promotion” but backdated to 2017.
ALEDEH gathered that it is a norm before now for a special promotion to take effect from the date of release but the reverse was the case in the controversial list released by the PSC.
The implication of the list released by the PSC, means all officers promoted on merit after 10 years on a rank last year are now junior to those on special promotion now. More so, all of them are 2014, 2015 and 2016 promoted officers.
ALEDEH gathered that the names on special promotion are those complained about by Senator Isah Misau some months ago.
Similarly, ALEDEH reader, Precious Akunnaya commented in March that inspectors promoted since 2011 have been forgotten by the Force.
“All that is being talked about here is 2014,2015 and 2016. I wish to use this medium to also inform the authority or those concerned that those of us inspectors promoted since 2011 have been forgotten and nothing is being talked about us maybe because we don’t have money to buy the rank or because we don’t have a father upstairs. Please save our souls”, Akunnaya commented under the story: “Rumpus In Nigeria Police And Police Service Commission Over Controversial Promotion List” published by ALEDEH March 15, 2018.
Please note that this is a developing story, more to follow soon…
