FG Committee On Community Policing Submits Report To SGF

The Federal Government’s Committee on Strengthening Internal Security Framework and Community Policing in Nigeria, on Friday, submitted its report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.

The committee was inaugurated by Mustapha on 7th May, 2019 to study and analyse the findings, recommendations and implementation strategies of the Presidential Parley Report by the Senior Executive Course, 4, 2018 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS), Kuru, Jos and come up with Policy Statement for the consideration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Presenting the report of the committee at Conference room of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Friday, the Chairperson, Dr. (Mrs.) Amina M. B. Shamaki, appreciated the SGF for the “honour of appointing us to serve our fatherland in this capacity”.

“We all viewed this appointment as a call to duty particularly, being aware of the various dimensions of the security challenges which plaque our dear country today,” the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Office (SSO) said.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, receives the report from Chairperson of the Committee on Strenthening Internal Security Framework And Community Policing In Nigeria, Dr. (Mrs.) Amina M. B. Shamaki, mni, on Friday, 13th September, 2019.

According to Shamaki, the committee devolved into two (2) Sub-Committees namely, Internal Security and Community Policing after inauguration and held several meetings to brainstorm and study the NIPSS report with a view to developing actionable recommendations to strengthen internal security framework and implementation of Community Policing in Nigeria.

“At inauguration, I assured SGF that the Committee will approach the assignment with all the seriousness it required.

“Today that promise has come to pass. The Committee, in the course of the assignment, worked assiduously, researched analysed and made comparative studies in order to propose the set of recommendations that will positively impact on all aspects of internal security in Nigeria.

“Correspondingly, the Committee has proposed innovative alternative funding mechanism to ensure the provision of infrastructure, equipping agencies with modern gadgets and weapons and for the welfare and wellbeing of personnel. The Committee emphasised the deployment of technology particularly, for intelligence gathering, pre-empting incidences of crime and for resolving complex investigations.

“We highlighted the need for the Security Committees at the State and Local Government levels, to be made functional and the involvement of all strata of the society including the integration of the informal security outfits into the Community Policing Strategy,” the committee chairperson stated.

She appreciated the SGF, Boss Mustapha, the Service Chiefs and heads of security agencies and other institutions, for releasing their personnel and experts for the assignment.

“I must especially, thank the Inspector General of Police, and his Management Team for the wonderful support accorded the Committee during the period of the assignment which assisted greatly in accomplishing the assigned task.

“Once again, on behalf of the members, I wish to express our gratitude for the honour and privileged to serve our fatherland in this capacity.

“It is now my distinct honour and privilege to, on behalf of members, submit the Report of the Committee. I thank you very much and may God Almighty bless us and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Shamaki added.
