Following the success of her work in ‘The Wedding Party’, talented filmmaker Kemi Adetiba has premiered a new movie ‘King of Boys’ at Filmhouse Cinemas, Lagos
The premiere which held on Sunday had the movie’s cast and other celebrities gracing the occasion to have a first hand experience of Adetiba’s directorial skills in the highly anticipated movie.
Speaking ahead of the movie premiere, Adetiba noted that the movie is another different venture for her saying, “After the huge success of “The Wedding Party”, I wanted to try my hands on a different style of storytelling, one that would show my versatility as a director and a storyteller”
The movie stars Sola Sobowale as the major character, Alhaja Eniola who attempts to climb the society’s political ladder. However, she faces obstacles springing up from her past and encounters a power tussle to maintain her position as king of the Lagos underwold.
With the successful completion of the movie, Adetiba in an interview with CNN, attributes her prowess in filmmaking to her creative mind which has led to a successful career in the Nigerian film industry.
“I was always a very creative kid. My first love was definitely in the creative industry and it was cultivated by my parents because they were also very creative,” she said.
Although she started out as a music video director in Nigeria, Adetiba shot to limelight after her movie ‘The wedding party’ became the first movie to surpass the $1.3 million mark at the Nigerian box office and is currently the highest grossing film in Nigerian history.
Against the backdrop of this achievement Adetiba hopes to reach more milestones and gain international recognition for her work in the next two to five years adding that “I honestly do believe that winning an Oscar is going to come very soon”
