FRSC Recommends 50 000 Fine For Phone Use While Driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC is recommending the fine of 50,000 to be paid by car owners who use mobile phones while at the wheel.
This is coming as a result of the killing of 74 FRSC officials across the country by reckless drivers in the last 18 months.
Disclosing this, the Corps Marshall Boboye Oyeyemi said the 50,000 upward review as against the initial amont paid would serve as a deterrent to road users who drive in a reckless manner.
On the killing of Officials, Boboye said that plans are already underway to bring the offenders to justice.
He noted that the initial paltry amount paid by defaulters is no more applicable adding that the recommendation of a minimum of 50,000 to 100,000 fine has been submitted to the National Assembly.
“Already, there are efforts before the National Assembly to jerk up the fine payable for a phone user while on the wheels”

“What is currently obtainable cannot do the work, but when you have to pay N50,000 to N100,000 for using your phone while driving, then we will get somewhere”

He warned those that flout the ‘no phones while driving’ rule and in turn hit his officials would be hunted down and brought to justice.

“It is my responsibility to ensure the safety of my personnel on the highway; so, if you knock down my personnel and you are running away, I will go after you,” he said.
