Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has reportedly dissolved his cabinet , 24 hours after Austin Tam-George resigned his appointment as commissioner for information and communication.
The development was contained in a statement issued by his special assistant on electronic media, Simeon Nwakaudu on Saturday, June 24.
In the statement, the governor directed all former commissioners to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their ministries.
Governor Wike also thanked them for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours.
On June 23, Tam-George announced his resignation in a letter directed to the state governor, Nyesom Wike.
In the letter which was exclusively obtained by ALEDEH, Tam-George said he has officially handed over to the Director of Administration of the Ministry.
“I wish to resign my appointment as Commissioner for Information and Communication with effect from today, 23rd, June, 2017.
“I have handed over officially to the Director of Administration of the Ministry.
“Thank you for the opportunity to serve the state”, the letter stated.
His resignation came less than 24 hours after the state commissioner for works, Harrison Iheanyichukwu was sacked.
Meanwhile, governor Wike has moved against at least 10 members of his cabinet since he assumed office in May 2015.
In February, Wike sacked the commissioner for health, Theophilus Ndagene.
Ndagene’s removal preceded that of Kevin Wachuku, who served as commissioner for works before Iheanyichukwu.
Governor Wike said had accused Wachuku of living below expectation.
“I have a covenant with the people of Rivers state to develop this state. And anybody who is going to work with me must work at my speed and not at your own speed,” he had said while announcing the ex-commissioner’s sack.
“Nobody should come and drag me back like the former commissioner. Wachukwu is intelligent, but he could not meet up with the pace of work at the ministry,” the Rivers state governor had said.
Governor Wike also suspended four commissioners, head of service and his special adviser on lands five months after making that utterance
