Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has said the service chiefs will appear before the senate on Thursday to brief the chamber on efforts at curbing the worsening insecurity in the country.
Lawan while speaking on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday said the service chiefs could not honour the invitation today because of a security meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock.
Last week, the Senate invited the service chiefs over reports that Boko Haram insurgents hoisted their flag in Shiroro LGA of Niger state.
“Today the national security council is continuing with its meeting. It started last week. Therefore the invited security heads would not be able to come for the briefing. We are not sure they will finish their meeting today (on time).
“We assume that it will spill to Wednesday just like it spilled to from Thursday or Friday to Tuesday.
“To be on the side of caution, our briefing will be on Thursday 6th of this month.”
Heads of other security agencies like the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Department of State Services (DSS) are also expected to appear before the senate.
