South African President, Jacob Zuma has resigned as the President of the Rainbow Nation. Zuma announced his resignation in a broadcast televised this evening in South Africa.
Zuma had received widespread criticisms over his corrupt practises and handling of salient issues in South Africa. Insinuations had been rife earlier that the apartheid hero was on his way out of the topmost South African political office.
Earlier, Mr Zuma’s governing ANC party told him to resign or face a vote of no confidence in parliament on Thursday.
The 75-year-old has been under increasing pressure to give way to Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, the ANC’s new leader.
Mr Zuma faces numerous allegations of corruption and has terminated his stay as President more than a decade after replacing Thabo Mbeki.
