The National Industrial Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos has granted an injunction stopping the 2019 Lagos State National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Election which was earlier scheduled for Thursday morning at Radio Lagos/Eko FM, Ikeja Lagos.
Sekinah Lawal, who was the applicant in the suit sought for an exparte motion against defendants; Ekine Adeola, Registered Trustees of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Ifeyinwa Omole, Ladi Lawal, Mrs. Abiola Beckley and Mrs. Yemisi Adeniran.
The applicant prayed to the court for an order of interim injunction restraining the 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants from recognising Ekine, the 1st defendant as a candidate for the election into office as Chairperson, NAWOJ Lagos.
The applicant also prayed to the court to restrain the 2nd to 6th defendant from conducting any election for the position.
The court further granted the prayer and warned the defendants against going against the court’s orders. This, the court said will be regarded as Contempt of Court and is punishable under the law.
The court has alsoadjourned the case to the 30th of May.
