Senator Douye Diri has on Friday been sworn in as Governor of Bayelsa State.
Diri was today announced as the winner of the Bayelsa Governorship election, after the Supreme Court sacked former Governor-elect, David Lyon.
Lyon had some rehearsals in preparation for his swearing-in today before the news of his sack sent shocking waves round the Nigerian political class.
Diri, who was earlier presented with his certificates today by INEC, charged Bayelsans to live together in love. He sought the support of the people of the state and asked that hatred should not be encouraged in the state as it will be inimical to growth.
The newly sworn-in Governor was the candidate of the PDP at the November 2019 Governorship election in Bayelsa State. INEC had announced the candidate of the APC, Lyon as rightful winner of the election, before the Supreme Court’s ruling on Thursday turned things the other way.
