It is a black Sunday in Nigerian football as Enugu Rangers star attacker, Ifeanyi George has died in an automobile accident.
Ifeanyi George’s car was part of a convoy that left Enugu on Sunday morning after the League Management Company suspended the league over COVID-19. The accident killed three people with the other two yet to be identified while some others also sustained injuries.
The players were given a 10-day break and were headed home when the accident happened along the Onitsha-Agbor-Benin Road.
Rangers team manager, Amobi Ezeaku confirmed the sad news on Sunday.
“It is a black Sunday in Nigerian football and sad to say the least,” he said.
“Yes, it’s true that Ifeanyi George died on the spot but will confirm others to you as I am on my way to the scene of the accident.”
General Manager, Davidson Owumi also confirmed the disturbing news.
“We just heard this disturbing news this morning and what we hear is not palatable. I await information from my officials that are already on their way to the spot where the accident was said to have taken place. We call for prayers in this hour of pains,” Owumi said.
