Former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Zakawanu Garuba has died at the age of 54.
Garba’s death was revealed to ALEDEH News by family sources.
“Our Friend, Brother, Comrade and former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly; Rt Hon Zakawanu Garuba has gone to be with the Lord. He passed on this morning.
May Almighty Allah forgive his sins and grant him Aljanat Firdaus.”
The former lawmaker died of an unknown ailment in an Abuja hospital.
Garuba was born on 23rd August 1965, in Akpekpe community, Auchi, in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state. He studied Law at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State and was called to Bar in 1990.
He served as chairman of the House committee on judiciary, human rights, and legal matters before becoming Speaker in 2007.
Zakawanu Garuba was appointed into the Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission to serve as the Executive Commissioner, Finance and Administration (now known as the corporate services directorate of the commission).
He was the Oshioze of Auchi Kingdom and Okumagbe of Uzaire.
