A yet to be identified gunman, has on Wednesday night forced his way into the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oak, California and opened fire on dancers visiting the popular fun spot.
The Sheriff in charge of investigations, Geoff Dean told reporters that no fewer than twelve people were killed and the suspected gunman was found dead at the scene.
Also ,Ventura County sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant, Ron Helus was identified as one of those killed in the Borderline incident while a dozen others were injured.
According to Dean, Helus had been at the department for nearly three decades, and was planning to retire next year
“Ron gave his all and tonight, he died a hero because he went in to save lives,” he said.
Describing the scene as horrific, Sherriff Dean said that that the motive is still unclear and investigators have not found any type of assault rifle within the bar.
However, witnesses described the suspect as a figure cloaked in black with glasses on as he walked onto the dance floor filled with people.
It was also reported that multiple students from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California were at the Borderline Bar & Grill before the shooting commenced.
Investigations are still ongoing to identify the students and the alleged mastermind of the act.
