Some armed men have attacked the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja on Wednesday, as they disrupted plans of the staff of the hospital to hold a Press Conference calling on the federal government to establish a COVID-19 screening centre in the state.
Investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo revealed this via his Twitter handle on Wednesday.
He said the gunmen who appeared plain-clothed, used a van to barricade the entrance of the hospital while two other vans drove in to cause mayhem.
The armed men shot sporadically in the air afterwards, scared the staff of the hospital away before heading to the records and administrative department to destroy their laptops and a few other things. They were also reported to have ransacked the medical director’s office too.
Dozens of plain-clothed gunmen who arrived in three white Hilux vans have just finished terrorising staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, who were planning a press conference/protest to pressure FG into establishing a COVID-19 screening centre in the state.

The hospital management also instructed the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) not to shoot in order to prevent blood shed.
According to Soyombo, the hospital associations have told all staff to evacuate the hospital, meaning the hospital has been shut down, thereby placing the ordinary citizens of the state in a dicey situation.
Recall that Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello has been on a collision course with the NCDC and the PTF, insisting that COVID-19 is a ruse and also saying at different periods that his state is free of the viral disease despite recorded cases.
Just last week, the state’s Chief Justice died as a result of COVID-19 complications but the Governor has insisted the virus is not in Kogi State.
