Manchester City have been banned from Europe for two seasons for what UEFA tagged “serious breaches of regulations”.
They have also been slammed with a heavy €30m fine by the European football governing body.
Man City have been in the news in the past for its breach of several regulations set by UEFA, as regard the Financial Fair Play rules.
UEFA in its decision said the ban was as a result of its confirmation that the club had cooked up revenues from sponsorships in their defense of allegations of spending beyond their means.
The ban will begin from the 2020/21 season and will end in the 2021/22 season and is subject to appeal by the Citizens.
Manchester City said in a statement; “Manchester City is disappointed but not surprised by today’s announcement by the UEFA Adjudicatory Chamber.”
“The Club will pursue an impartial judgment as quickly as possible and will therefore, in the first instance, commence proceedings with the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the earliest opportunity.”
