Almost two months after COVID-19 pandemic spread to Madagascar, the Indian Ocean island on Sunday announced its first death of the virus.
Madagascar on March 20, 2020, reported its first three cases of COVID-19 and the figure has since increased to 304.
The East African country has been the headlines for its herbal concoction that President Andry Rajoelina claimed it can prevent and cure COVID-19.
African countries like Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Niger, Nigeria have already taken delivery of the herbal mixture.
The herbal drink tagged ‘COVID-Organics’ was derived from Artemisia and other indigenous herbs. It was produced by Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (IMRA).
Although the World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the herbal tea’s effects had not been tested, and there are no published scientific studies of the potion.
