Senators Phillip Aduda and Dino Melaye have both aired their displeasures on the absence of a Ministerial nominee from the Federal Capital Territory.
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday submitted a list of 43 ministerial nominees from the six geopolitical zones for screening and confirmation.
The Senate postponed its 2-month recess to hold the screening on Wednesday.
Aduda, who is the Senator representing the FCT said; ”Years back, we had a minister from FCT. General Bagudu was a minister. Please ask the president to consider FCT.”
Melaye, representing Kogi West in the red chambers said; “It is not a matter of appeal, it is a constitutional matter. If the constitution says that FCT shall be treated like a state, it should be considered.”
Senate President, Ahmed Lawan in his response said that it is an executive function and will be treated accordingly.
“This is an executive function and I’m sure the executive will take appropriate action.”
The Ministerial list saw some states have two nominees with the previous number of 36 in 2015 upped to 43 in 2019.
