A chartered accountant, Adewura Latifat Bello who was declared missing on May 15th has reportedly been found dead in a canal.
The 26-year-old lady went missing after she left the office with a colleague who dropped her off at medical road opposite Ikeja bus terminal to board a bus.
According to reports, she took a motorcycle home on 15 May and she fell into an open manhole, already flooded.
“Thanks for the search. Adewura is dead. Negligence by the relevant authorities, as usual. An unnecessary death due to an open manhole during a storm. Manhole was left open but fully covered with the flood, she and the bike man missed it due to bad visibility. She wasn’t aware.” Onaolapo Farouq lamented on Twitter.
But according to @StillSpencer, the bike man who carried Adewura reported himself to the police and was just detained for days without connecting his report to the missing Lady they were searching for.
However, Police spokesman Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), told reporters that the found body cannot be confirmed to be the missing Adewura Bello yet but has been taken for medical confirmation.
He said: “A body has been recovered at a canal in Ipaja, but it cannot be concluded yet if it is her as the body was already decomposing.
“At this point, the police have to depend on a medical examination to ascertain whose body it is, as the body has already been taken for medical examination.
“The possibility that she was kidnapped is low since there was no call to demand a ransom.”
