Nigerians Evacuated From UK Arrive In Lagos

The first set of Nigerians evacuated from the United Kingdom arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Friday.

Nigerians stranded abroad had in the wake of the COVID-9 pandemic, asked for the Federal Government’s help in returning to the country after Airports have been shut in different countries.

Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa confirmed their arrival via her Twitter page.

She said the flight arrived at about 1:30 p.m and returnees will be quarantined in Abuja.

“The first evacuation from the Uk has landed in Lagos. The passengers will be proceeding to Abuja where they will be on 14-day compulsory isolation,” she tweeted.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama had on Monday said British Airways would be coming to Lagos today and since it would be coming empty, the government had negotiated with the British government that Nigerians in the United Kingdom should be allowed to join the Airways.

Two days ago, 265 Nigerians were evacuated from Dubai.
